Whatsapp will not work in these smartphones after december 31
New Delhi: Come 2018, instant messaging service WhatsApp will end support for some BlackBerry and Windows Phone devices, the company said in a blog post. Starting January 1, 2018, the Facebook-owned social app will cease to function on Blackberry OS, Blackberry 10 and Windows Phone 8.0.
Whatsapp clearly said that it cannot support platforms as it will no longer actively develop for these platforms, some features may stop any time
That means whatsapp can be stopped working in some platforms if the company doesn't get any active response.
"These platforms don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer OS version, or to a newer Android running OS 4.0+, iPhone running iOS 7+, or Windows Phone 8.1+ so that you can continue using WhatsApp," the company said in a Support page.

The company however confirmed that it will support Nokia S40 untill december 31,2018, while will support android 2.3.7 until February 1, 2020
"Once you have one of these devices, simply install WhatsApp and verify your phone number on the new device. Keep in mind that WhatsApp can only be activated with one phone number on one device at a time," WhatsApp added.
Notably, there is currently no option to transfer chat history between platforms which means once upgrading to the newer platform you are likely to lose all the chat history. WhatsApp, however, provides the option to send chat history attached to an email.
